Underneath, nothing about the build relaxes: compacted base, steel mesh on chairs, a 25 MPa decorative mix at 100mm minimum, control joints cut on time and falls set so stormwater leaves the surface. Grip, glare and the coastal driveway
The coast asks specific things of a driveway surface. Summer storms drop water fast, and washed stone grips where a steel trowelled slab sheens over. Hard northern light makes pale plain concrete glare; an aggregate surface breaks the light instead. Salt air on the beach side asks for a sealed surface that can be maintained rather than a bare one that cannot. These are the reasons the finish earns its place here beyond how it looks.
Estates where plain grey is not an option
On covenant land this finish is usually the compliant answer, not the upgrade. In Aura, plain and painted concrete driveway finishes are generally not permitted under the design essentials for each release; Harmony’s guidelines rule out undecorated grey broom finish as well. Exposed aggregate satisfies both as a matter of course. The rules are release specific, so the wording that matters is in your estate’s design guidelines, and the quote is written to suit.

Why choose exposed aggregate over plain concrete for a driveway?

Which stone should a driveway use?
Driveways favour blends around 10mm stone for an even, tight surface that sweeps clean. Colour is chosen against the fixed elements of the house, render, roof and garage door, rather than in isolation. How long before we can drive on it?
Foot traffic the next day, cars after seven days, and heavy vehicles wait about a month while the slab builds full strength. The reveal and first seal all happen inside the first week, so what you wait on is strength, not looks.
Is the crossover included?
Yes, quoted with the driveway. Both Sunshine Coast Council and Noosa Shire accept exposed aggregate as a crossover surface. A crossover that meets the council checklist is self assessed with no permit; one outside it needs written council approval before work starts, and your quote states in writing which applies.
